To assist myself to return to the new “normal”, I am following one simple mantra that is to accept change may be difficult.
As humans we can get used to a certain kind of predictability which we label normal and it assists us to feel in control because we know what to expect. Then all of a sudden we are presented with a new set of routines, we no longer know what to expect as we are confronted with change and this can be a shock.
There is always the temptation to resist change as we are comfortable with what we know and change always creates uncertainty and to a greater or lesser extent loss of control.
So was we all adjust to the “new normal” remember to
- Accept that change may be difficult
- Give yourself time to adapt
- Be kind to yourself – as kind are you are to your best friend!
Finally rather than focusing on what I am losing through this adjustment to the new normal, I am actively looking for what I am gaining.
